Mohawk is one of America's largest flooring manufacturers, with LVP sold through home improvement stores, flooring dealers and warehouse clubs — Mohawk Home is the line most often seen at retail. Because the range is spread across several retailers, matching stair trim is stocked inconsistently and is not offered for every color. StairMatch reviews the Mohawk color and SKU you actually own, and where you bought it, before quoting a matched piece.
StairMatch is an independent company and is not affiliated with Mohawk or Various. Mohawk is a trademark of its respective owner, used here only to identify compatible flooring.
Every staircase ends up on one of these three routes. They differ in how close the match gets, how long it takes, and how much of the checking falls to you.
Route one
Trim sold by Mohawk for a specific color. When it exists for your color and is still in stock, it is usually the closest match available — but coverage varies color by color and changes over time, so check current availability at Various rather than assuming.
Route two
Universal stair noses sold in a limited set of stock finishes. Available immediately and inexpensive, but matched by eye rather than to your product, so grain scale, undertone, and sheen rarely line up at close range — and stairs are always at close range.
Route three
A piece made to your brand, color, and SKU. This is what StairMatch coordinates — with your permission, our manufacturing partner makes the nose to match your flooring and quotes you directly. It takes longer than pulling a box off a shelf, and it starts with a compatibility review rather than an order.
Whichever route you take, exact compatibility has to be confirmed. Plank thickness, profile, and edge condition vary between collections within a single brand, so a color name on its own does not establish that a given piece will fit. StairMatch verifies compatibility before quoting and will say so plainly when a match cannot be confirmed.
More people reach this question than expect to. It is decided by the condition of the steps underneath, not by which Mohawk color is on the floor — and getting it wrong is the difference between a trim piece and a full re-cover.
The right choice when the tread surface is already finished and staying — hardwood you are keeping, or LVP planks you are laying across the step yourself. The nose solves the front edge, covers the cut ends and hides the expansion gap. Everything behind it stays as it is.
The right choice when the steps are carpeted, worn, painted or unfinished — anything you would not want left on show. A tread covers the whole walking surface and the front edge as one piece, so the step is finished in a single operation rather than planked and then trimmed.
How this works on StairMatch: there is no separate tread product line. Every listing on this site is a stair nose, and full tread coverage is a variant of that same listing rather than a different product — so you start from your Mohawk color either way, and the nose-or-tread decision is made during the compatibility review. The full comparison goes through cost, installation and the cases that are genuinely borderline.
This is the most common way people arrive here, and the honest answer is that a few third-party manufacturers make stair pieces for floors the brand itself does not cover. They are worth checking before anything is made to order. StairMatch is not affiliated with any of them and does not track their current catalogs — treat these as names to search, not as confirmed matches for your floor.
Makes stair nose molding in vinyl and wood, widely stocked at Home Depot and coordinated to a number of the LVP lines sold there. Usually the first place to look for a nose-only piece.
A US molding manufacturer whose VersaEdge stair nose is built on an aluminum core and supports overlap, flush and lock-down installation on floors up to ¾ inch thick. Sold through flooring retailers rather than the big boxes.
Whichever you check, the color name is not enough on its own. Bring the SKU or item number as well — it is printed on the box label beside the barcode, and it is also on your receipt or Various order history. If the floor has been down for years and the packaging is long gone, check the back of a spare plank for a printed item number. You never need to mail flooring in.
A discontinued color is not automatically a dead end, but it is the case where the SKU matters most, because there is no current listing to compare against. StairMatch reviews retired Mohawk colors and will say plainly when a match cannot be confirmed rather than quoting on a guess.
Once you have the color and SKU, check them against the Mohawk colors on file further down this page.
Step one
Everything downstream depends on two details: your color name and your SKU or item number. Both appear on the box label, on your receipt, and in your Various order history.
StairMatch has not published verified per-color records for Mohawk yet, so there is no color list to browse here. Look your color up at the source below, then enter it manually — a color name and SKU you read off your own packaging is more reliable than any list we could reproduce.
These carry straight into the quote form, so you do not have to type them twice. Either field on its own is enough to start.
Find My Stair MatchSubmitting details starts a compatibility review. It is not an order, and StairMatch confirms whether a match is possible before quoting.
Enter your Mohawk color or SKU and see the stair options StairMatch holds records for. If nothing matches, the request goes to review rather than nowhere.
Which of these applies depends on the condition of your stairs and the edge you are finishing — not on the brand alone. Work down the list in order; the first two settle most projects.
A trim piece covering the front edge of each step. This is the usual choice when the Mohawk plank is being installed across the tread and only the leading edge needs finishing.
How a matched nose is specified →A full-surface cover for the top of each step. This is the path when stairs are carpeted, worn, or made of construction-grade lumber that was never meant to be seen.
Compare stair tread options →Sits level with the floor surface with minimal overhang. Used where clearance at the riser is tight, and it demands a more precise substrate than an overlap profile does.
When a flush profile fits →Laps over the edge of the finished floor instead of meeting it flush. More forgiving of an imperfect edge, and the more common retrofit choice.
Flush versus overlap, compared →Caps wrap the nose and part of the tread in one piece; returns finish the exposed end of an open-side stair. Both change what has to be measured before anything is ordered.
Open-side stairs and returns →When no stocked trim suits your Mohawk color, a piece built to your brand, color, and SKU is the remaining route. Compatibility is reviewed before anything is quoted.
Start a compatibility review →A retired color is not automatically a dead end, but it does change the approach — a SKU from old packaging or an order history is worth far more than a photograph at that point.
What to do when nothing matches →The vertical face between treads. Often left painted, but worth deciding on deliberately rather than by default once the treads are settled.
Riser options →The highest-converting request path is simple: send the brand, color, SKU, stair count, and a few photos before guessing on trim shape or ordering a near-match.
Use the quote form once you have the Mohawk LVP color name and SKU.
Request a match quoteIf the stairs are carpeted or worn, compare stair tread kits before ordering trim only.
Review tread kitsIf the stair treads are already finished, compare stair nose-only vs tread kits before you buy.
Compare the two pathsDiscontinued color, missing box label, or a Mohawk product that never had matching trim — none of those close the door. Tell us whatever you do have, such as the store, a receipt, or a photo of the floor, and StairMatch will review whether a match is possible before quoting anything. Never mail flooring in.
